Sail with the family business Zeehond and experience an unforgettable Seal Tour from Ameland
Rondvaartbedrijf Zeehond is a family business that has been run with great pleasure and enthusiasm since 2012 by Captain Mario and his wife Adinda, with their daughter Alysha. Sail with us on our ship, the Zeehond, and experience a Seal Tour from Nes, Ameland. A seal tour with viewing the launch takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. Along the way, Mario, the skipper and owner of the Zeehond, gives a “live” commentary on Ameland, nature, and, of course, the seals that can be seen in the always beautiful Wadden Sea. It is no coincidence that the Wadden Sea has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009! On board, you can buy a drink or snack, and on the return trip, the 50m2 playroom for children up to 8 years old opens.
Several times a year, the Horse Lifeboat Foundation organizes this demonstration, in which ten strong horses pull the Ameland lifeboat and trailer to the Southwest beach. This demonstration is an event that recalls earlier times when the lifeboat was used for rescue operations at sea. Eight horses pull the five-ton lifeboat on the trailer across the beach, dunes, and through the surf into the water. Finally, two horses launch the three-and-a-half-ton lifeboat and four pull the trailer back to the beach. The crew sails around and usually comes alongside so you can see the lifeboat up close.
After the launch, Adinda, the hostess and owner, will come by with the “skooibus,” a collection box. You are welcome to make a small donation to the Ameland Horse Lifeboat Foundation.

Do I need to make a reservation?
We recommend making a reservation. You can reserve online at www.robbentochten.com or by phone between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at 0519-554600.
What time should I arrive?
We recommend that you arrive at our ship 30 minutes in advance. We always depart on time due to the tide.
I am wheelchair-bound. Can I join?
Yes, but before making a reservation, you must first inquire (by phone/email) whether there is room for a wheelchair on your desired trip!
Where does the ship depart from?
You will find our ship at the end of the Nes ferry pier, Ameland, on the right-hand side next to the tall house and opposite the ferry.
Where can I park?
You can park your car for free in the parking lot halfway along the ferry pier, about a 300-meter walk from our ship. If this parking lot is full, you can park at the top of the dike. If you are on a bicycle, you can cycle to the end of the ferry pier and park your bicycle against the fence or under the tall house.
Do you have a bar on board?
In the saloon, there is a ship’s bar where you can buy coffee/tea, hot chocolate, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, sweets, a delicious slice of apple pie, or a snack such as a toasted sandwich, Unox sausage roll, or sausage roll. And, of course, our own Wadden liqueur, “Robbenslok.”
Can I bring my own food and drinks?
Food and drinks brought on board may not be consumed in the saloon.
Will we disembark to see the seals?
No, we will view the seals from the ship. This is a protected nature reserve that requires a permit. It is therefore important that we do not disturb them and that everyone remains quiet. Flying a drone is not permitted.
Is there a toilet on board?
Yes, there are two toilets.
