WELCOME ABOARD THE SEAL BOAT, THE “ZEEHOND”
Rondvaartbedrijf Zeehond is a family business that has been run with great pleasure and enthusiasm since 2012 by Captain Mario and his wife Adinda, with their daughter Alysha.
The passenger ship “Zeehond,” which was launched in 1996, was renovated in January 2019 and now has a spacious, warmly decorated saloon with a cozy atmosphere. Even in less favorable weather, the large panoramic windows offer a magnificent view of the mudflats from every seat.
The spacious sundeck can be closed by using a sliding roof, and since April 2023 we have been using our new walkway that is mounted on the back of the ship.
Since November 2024, we have been sailing with two brand new Weichai WO8 Euro 6 engines. Our ship is the first ship with this model! These engines are specially adapted for the maritime sector and represent the highest level of sustainability on today’s market. Thanks to the use of AdBlue, the emissions have been reduced by no less than 60%. In this way, we actively contribute to a cleaner future and more sustainable sailing.
During the trip, Mario talks about nature, Ameland, and the seals, while Adinda, together with Alysha, ensures a hospitable stay. On board, you can purchase a drink or snack.
Childfriendly
The Zeehond is a child-friendly and, above all, child-safe boat thanks to the completely enclosed railing around the ship and the presence of a playroom for the little ones. After the visit to Robben Island, this is opened and each child receives a coloring page of the boat.
During the trip, skipper Mario will give you a clear explanation. Combined with the route descriptions and nautical charts in the table tops, you will get a clear view of the Wadden Sea area.
At the ship’s bar, skipper’s wife Adinda will be happy to serve you a fresh cup of coffee or a “Robbenslok.” At Robbeneiland, there is ample opportunity to admire the seals from the ship.
Dogfriendly
Dogs (of all shapes and sizes) are allowed on board, provided they are kept on a leash, and free of charge. Fresh water is always available.
